The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain is the story of prince Edward VI of England, son of Henry VIII of England who switches clothing and identities with a poor boy named Tom Canty , a pauper who lives with his abusive, alcoholic father in Offal Court in London. They wear each other's clothes so they could experience what is it like to be the other boy. The boys are mistaken for one another because they look nearly identical, and they embark upon a journey that leads them to self-discovery while living opposing lives.
