A Christmas Carol recounts the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Marley tells Scrooge he must change his ways and live a life of generosity, or he will be punished and forced to walk the earth forever more. The three spirits show him visions of his life and how his life will be if he doesn't change. Filled with regret and sorrow but a determination to change, Scrooge returns to his home on Christmas Day where he sets out to change his life and use his wealth to help others. He goes on to embody the Christmas spirit better than anyone else. After the spirits' visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder and gentler man.
